XanGo Nearly Shut Down on Day 3
    Oct
    21
XanGo FoundersYou’ve likely heard the story of XanGo’s founding days.  Joe’s mangosteen discovery in Southeast Asia.  Unearthing decades of research.  Rounds of phone calls and visits to investors and leaders.  Putting our homes, cars and savings on the line to get started.  Did you know that it all nearly ended on the docks 72 hours after we opened the doors?  It took all of 3 days for every start-up dollar we had to be at risk.  How did we get through it?  Read on. Day 1 in November 2002 felt historic.  We opened the doors, turned on the fax machines and the applications began to roll in.  The momentum continued on Day 2.  The business was immediately moving.  I told my partner, Gordon Morton, “I hope we got enough financing [...]

Branding Wall of Fame: Walt Disney

Walt Disney DISNEY'S FOLLY The life of WALT DISNEY is one of America's greatest success stories.  Few names are as recognizable around the world across so many different ages and cultures.  Mention his name and some will immediately think of a trip to one of his theme parks.  Others will recall one of his films, one of his characters, or one of the television shows he created. THE EMPIRE AND LEGACY he built is impressive but the story of the man himself is even more awe-inspiring.  Walt Disney's life serves as a lesson in determination.  It is a reminder that passion trumps greed. The famous turning point in Disney's career was the release of the full length animated motion picture Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.  It stunned [...]
    XANGO – September 11

Happy Birthday to XANGO.   Although our official opening began on November 4, 2002...today marks the day that XANGO was officially formed in that same year. September 11 will forever hold a place in history in the hearts and minds of people throughout the world.   At XANGO, it represents the day we decided to take a stand for freedom and to create a company that would allow whoever was a part of it to do the same. Indeed, God has blessed all of us. Thanks to my wife Tiffany for believing and ever supporting.  Thanks to my partners Joe Morton (who started it all), Gary Hollister, Kent Wood, Gordon Morton and Bryan Davis for allowing me to share in their dreams and in their vision.   Thanks to Beverly [...]
You Don't Need Validation for You ...

Aaron Garrity with Victoria Zazueta, Yuridia Avendaño, Luis Lizarraga and Edgar Emilio Soto PáezMaking a bold choice can be tricky business. Your family and friends may be the first to weigh in with their opinions...and critiques. For entrepreneurs, bold choices are required. If you're not willing to break from the herd and make your own call, you're in the wrong line of work, my friend. We certainly felt that when we started XanGo. We had to leave our full-time jobs, put our reputations and homes on the line and dive into the deep end without a lifeguard nearby. And that was just the jump in. It took bold choices to build the business too. We decided on a more aggressive distributor compensation plan. We decided on a powerful brand image and single product [...]
    Taking It "Full Circle"

Summer is a great time to go back to our roots. Like ours, a lot of families take vacations to familiar locales where they have established memories...whether it's a beach, a cabin or a creek where the fishing is almost legendary. It's important to remember where you come from. And it's a good reminder of the road you've traveled to get to this point in your life...and renew the direction you're headed. I grew up in L.A. Going back brings a flood of memories. It also inspires me. We didn't have a lot growing up. My mom, one of my personal heroes, worked three jobs, including at the Los Angeles Times, to support us. That motivates [...]
Pitching In: Why It’s Good to Go ...

Aaron Garrity Goes Camping with the Boy Scouts For those of you who know me, picturing me snoozing in a sleeping bag under a canvas ceiling may be a bit of a stretch. That image may even provoke a chuckle or two. It's no secret that I'm particular about my surroundings. I like a certain order to my environment...to my life at that. That preference is often challenged in a frenzied business travel schedule. And it's downright discarded when I spend a few days camping like I did last week with my son and 14 of his friends--troop 847 of the Boy Scouts of America. And, though I have to adjust to the grit of "roughing it," I can still [...]

Aaron Garrity shares deep stuggles in his life and in the story of XanGo at XanGo Thrive 2010 in Las Vegas that could have led to dispair, yet through leadership and hope led to new records that were shattered. It is always the darkest before the dawn. As a leader, you can choose success. You can choose light over darkness. Choose light and rally your team to greatness.
Branding Wall of Fame: Richard Branson ...

Richard BransonI love history, especially business history. When looking at successful companies, I look to study the circumstances. Where did the company start? What did it bring to market? How did it define the category it introduced? Most importantly...Who was the catalyst that moved the pieces into place? Over the years I have featured a brand wall in my office—a list of Category Creators...FIRST to markets...market definers. Companies like Coca Cola, Disney, Harley Davidson, Aston Martin, Tiffany’s, Google, Apple, Virgin, MTV and others (even the Beatles) have made it to my wall. Each has a hero...someone who loved the brand, who loved the company and who sought to reward those who would do the same. Over the next several months [...]

With the screening process finished, the Operation Smile surgeries began today in Chonburi, Thailand. What a day. Nearly 30 operations took place, from cleft palates and lips to facial reconstructions to the removal of tumors, the surgeons and support staff (all donating of their time and talents) worked miracles in the lives of these children in such desperate need. One by one these professionals entered their work zones for the day. Looking at our XanGo staff and Distributors, they made it a point to thank the entire organization for its willingness to carry through on this mission at such a critical time. Unfortunately, much of the [...]
